Give Thanks

This morning as I sit here in the quietness my mind going several different directions, I can’t help but think of Thanksgiving which is coming up in a short couple of days.  Even tho, there is much going through my mind of what I need to do and want to do I can’t help but know that I am incredibly blessed.  Are things perfect?  No, definitely not but one thing is sure and that is that I am perfectly loved by God and so are you.  He has blessed me with a God loving, hard working, compassionate husband and for that I am so thankful.  Trust me, it’s not easy being married to me :).  I am so blessed with my precious kids, Dustin, Amelia and Pierce are truly blessings to our family and so is Miss Olivia who will b making her debut in the next couple of months.  I am thankful for family, church family and friends that love me, even in my weakness and imperfections.  I am thankful for the house that we live in, it keeps us out of the elements and provides shelter.  I am thankful for the food that we have, it nourishes our bodies and gives us strength.  I am thankful for modern day conveniences like electricity, running water, wi-fi, washing machines, dryers, and microwaves– all of these things do make our days and lives easier.

I could go on and on about what I am thankful for but I think one thing we can do is just stop and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for and give thanks to our God for His wonderful gifts.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.- Psalm 107:1

As I sit here and think of the tragedy that has happened in the past couple of days, I cannot help but know that the enemy of our souls is at work. We see it where the 49 people lost their lives at a club while many, many others were injured because of hate.  We know this is not love, our God tells us to love one another.  Then we see it with this precious family on vacation, to Walt Disney World, one of the happiest, most magical places in the world and they lose their 2 year old son who was snatched by an alligator.  None of these people expected their days to go the way they did.  We have compassion for these that lost precious loved ones and perhaps hold and love on ours a little more.

While fear and anxiety are very real, we cannot let it rule our lives.  We cannot make ourselves stay in our homes afraid of what “may” happen.  I know with this pregnancy, the enemy is trying to cause fear more than with the others and I have learned some things I just need to not read or listen to.  I want to love more, serve more and share the love of Jesus more.  We are told in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” and in 1 John 4:18 we read that perfect love drives out fear.

While we need to be cautious of  what is around us, we can know that we are not alone and we do not have to be afraid.  We can live happy, victorious lives because of the hope we have in Jesus!

It’s been a great day, I feel so blessed. I thank God for my Mama, Reba Clark Allen, who is one of the strongest and hardworking women that I have ever known. She is stronger and braver than she knows. She has taught me so much and I am so blessed that God handpicked her for me. I also thank God for my second mother, Anita Lawrence Feathers, she is such a blessing to me and treats me like her daughter. She gave birth and raised the most amazing man, Joe Feathers Jr that loves me and chose me to be his wife. I am so blessed that I get to be Mama to my 3 precious kids, Dustin, Amelia and Pierce. I also look forward to seeing my precious Grandmothers that have went on to Heaven but left lasting impressions on my life forever and seeing the baby that I never really met but still hold in my heart. I am also thankful for Marcia Davison Lawrence, who is such a treasured jewel and precious Maw Maw to all of us. I am so thankful for all of my precious sisters, Mary, Becky, Bess, Selena, and Shannon and all of my many aunts and other women that have impacted my life. God has truly been good to me and I hope that I can bless others the way that these women have impacted me.

You matter…..

Have you ever felt like you just didn’t belong or like you couldn’t find your place?   I have felt this way at times recently.  I know I am not alone because I know we fight the same enemy.  Satan is the enemy of our souls and he wants us sad, depressed, and miserable.  However, Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that He came to give us life more abundantly.  I love that verse, it has always meant a lot to me since I learned it when I was in ninth grade.  I love in 1 Peter 5:7, where we are told to cast our cares on him because he cares for us. Who cares?  God cares!!

My friend, if you are finding yourself in a place that you feel unwanted, unneeded or unloved may you find the peace that you are where you are supposed to be.  I know our flesh calls out to us to run, give up or quit but I don’t feel like that is always the best answer.  Many times in our lives we have to wait and trust that God is leading us and He has us in the palm of his hand.  As your going through whatever you may be going through may you feel the peace and grace that comes from knowing and trusting Him.

I pray that you will find comfort in these scriptures and know that you truly do matter 🙂

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me. Psalm 120:1

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Jeremiah 31:3

………..the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

Don’t worry!

How often have we heard that phrase “Don’t Worry?”  We’ve heard it in the popular song from the late 1980’s and we are quick to give it as advice but why is it so hard to heed to?  Is it because we’re really not sure that everything will really be okay?

I love in Matthew 6 when Jesus tells us not to worry. He goes on to tell us to consider the birds and lily’s of the field, how God loves us much more than them and He takes care of them so surely He will take care of us.  I love that! Have you ever watched a bird, yes it looks for food but also knows that it will be taken care of.  I don’t imagine the flowers or birds are stressing over where the money for the bills are going to come from or the next meal.  They know they will be taken care of.  We are told in scripture that God meets all of our needs according to His riches in glory, He wants to provide for us and take care of us– just like we want to bless our children.

Imagine for a moment how much sweeter our days would be, if we focused on the promise that God will take care of us and meet our needs.  I’m praying that as we go to sleep tonight, we can have sweet sleep and rest in the promise that even tho we may not know how or when we know that God is taking care of it all.

Be blessed!!!

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.  Psalm 145:8

This is a verse that most of us have heard at least once in our lives if not many, many times.  However, as Christians are we living our lives this way?  We say we want to be like Jesus and we know from His example that He lived his life this way.  I can only speak from my own experience and failings but I know many times I “forget” about this in my life.  Yes, I love because that’s what you’re supposed to do, right?  However, am I am gracious, compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love?  I know these are characteristics I want to be but what is stopping me? The answer completely is ME.  How is it me?  I think it’s me because I allow myself to get busy, occupied or focused on things that really just do not matter.

I  can think of a few examples that happened just in the last couple of days that God used my children to teach me. Last night, I had decided I was going to make a stop to pick up a couple of things on the way home, however when I turned on road there were two cars there– one had a flat tire and I assumed had all the help it needed with the other car there so I proceeded to turn around and go the other way.  Just as I turned Dustin said, “Mama, you have to stop and let me try to help those people.”  I really did not want to stop because I was on a mission and had a time frame but he was persistent, he said “Those are Mamas and they need help.” I really didn’t know what he could do but we stopped and he did all he could to help and even called in more help but the car ended up needing to be towed away, however the lady told me “You’re raising a fine young man, and my 14 could use some lessons from him.” While I was so proud of him, I wasn’t proud of his Mama at the time because she was too focused at her own agenda rather than slowing down to help someone in need.  Looking back, that stop only costed us about 30 minutes of time and I was still able to do what I needed to do because the Lord had impressed me to leave earlier than I normally do. Another, example that I am not proud of is when the little ones have been at school all day and are so excited to see me and I am them too but then after just a few minutes I am stressed because all that I still need to do, you know the homework, dinner, and everything else. Or when they make a mess and realize in making that mess, they were really trying to make something for you or help you?  I know we are busy people and sometimes our business cannot be helped but sometimes it can.  I am asking the Lord to show me ways to apply this verse daily in my life.

Prayer for today:

Lord, thank you for another day.  I ask you today to slow me down and show me areas that I can be more compassionate in and please help me to be slow to anger and rich in your love with everyone I come in contact with today.                         In Jesus’ name, Amen

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Dear Grandma,

On this day 86 years ago a great thing happened, you were born.  I know you are not here to celebrate with us today because you are having the best birthday ever with Jesus!  I am so happy for you, I can only imagine how big that beautiful smile is now.  The tears are flowing this morning because while I know you’re having the best time, I miss you.  I feel like we should be planning on where we’re going to lunch or where we want to go shopping but we’re not.  I am so thankful for the time that I had you in my life, I know not everyone is as fortunate.  Thank you Grandma for loving our family the way you did. I keep thinking of all I need to do and yet it keeps going back to how you did it– making the bed, the laundry, the dishes, how you washed our hair when we were little–those are such precious memories.  Today, I choose to honor you, celebrate you and cherish the time I had with you.

On Sunday, we had one of your favorite meals for dinner as well as carrot cake and we sent you balloons.  The kids had the best time and were excited to send the balloons and their messages to you. I believe God let you see those balloons and messages.

I will close for now but Happy, Happy Birthday Beautiful Grandma!!
